Roosevelt County Information

The state of New Mexico features Roosevelt County. A census demonstrated that Roosevelt County had a total population of 19,191 in 2020. In Roosevelt County, the current seat is Portales.

It was formed in 1903.

It was named for President Theodore Roosevelt. He is often referred to as Teddy Roosevelt or his initials T. R., was an American statesman, politician, conservationist, naturalist, and writer who served as the 26th president of the United States from 1901 to 1909.

Roosevelt County comprises the Portales, NM Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Clovis-Portales, NM Combined Statistical Area.

Roosevelt County records their criminal activity in the form of criminal records. These records cover murders, rapes, burglaries, arson, motor vehicle theft, assaults, and crimes of a sexual nature. Then again, Roosevelt County does charge per record copy. First copies of birth records cost $10. Death records in Roosevelt County cost $5 for the first copy in Roosevelt County.

NOTE - Roosevelt County has a variety of rules that must be followed with regard to obtaining records. Roosevelt County requesters must attain records between 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. PST from Monday to Friday. If a requester wishes to obtain files, they must bring some form of photo identification. Both driver's licenses and state IDs would suffice. Roosevelt County insists upon public record applications being put in writing.
