It was formed in 1860.

It was named for Mora, or Santa Gertrudis de lo de Mora is a census-designated place.

NOTE - If a requester would like to obtain records face-to-face, they must adhere to a variety of rules in Mora County. The office is open between 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. (winter hours); 7:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. from Thursday (summer hours) MST to obtain records in-person in Mora County. In Mora County, some form of photo ID is needed to attain records. State IDs and driver's licenses will do just fine.
